It was called the Императорское Русское Географическое Общество (Imperatorskoe Russkoe Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo) from 1850 to 1917. From 1917 to 1926 it reverted to its original name. From 1926 to 1938 it was called the Государственное Географическое Общество (Gosudarstvennoe Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo). From 1938 to 1993 it was called the Всесоюзное Географическое Общество (Vsesoiuznoe Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo) or the Географическое Общество СССР (Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo SSSR). In 1993 it reverted once again to its original name. For non-revisionist cataloguing data for early journals, see Harvard Univ. cat.: use author names: Russkoe Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo and Imperatorskoe Russkoe Geograficheskoe Obshchestvo. The Russian catalogues seem to expunge any reference to the Imperial designation, even though it appeared on the title pages of the journals from 1850 to 1917 (according to data in the Harvard Univ. cat.)]

College of Teachers (CT)
[Founded in 1846 as Society of Teachers, and became College of Preceptors in 1849. Took its present name in 1998. The ZDB indicates that the College published Educational Times, and Journal of the College of Preceptors (20.1868 - 49.1896). The Oxford Univ. cat. indicates that the first title lasted until 1918, and was then continued by Educational Times (1919-1923) (not associated with the College). The Cambridge Univ. cat. indicates that the College published Education Today (1952- ). It is hard to find good cataloguing data for the intermediate title that makes it clear that is is indeed a publication of the College.]

[Also known as Hollandse Maatschappij van Landbouw (HMvL) for part of its existence. This may be considered the successor to the Maatschappij ter Bevordering van den Landbouw te Amsterdam (1776-1847). There are references to the HMvL as late as 1986 (see Regionaal Archief Alkmaar: overzicht). There are remarks in a book review of Agrarische kwaliteit van de Hoeksche Waard that suggest that the Maatschappij was in some sense continued by the Westelijke Land- en Tuinbouworganisatie (WLTO) (which gives its official founding date as 1991). The situation is not perfectly clear.]
