1845	According to Otness (1998), the Society was founded in 1845 as the Asiatic Society of Ceylon. In 1846 it became a branch of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland , known as the Ceylon Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society. In 1972 it became the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka (RAS SL).
