According to its website, the Society was founded in Abbeville as the Société Linnéenne du Nord de la France through the work of Casimir Picard. The Society was dissolved in 1847 due to the premature death of Casimir Picard.

The Society was reconstituted on 1865, November 12 with the same name, but situated at Amiens.
