In 1817 it became the Société des Sciences, Belles-lettres et Arts du département du Var, séant à Toulon. In 1868 it became the Société Académique du Var, and in 1878 it took the name Académie du Var.]

[This society was founded in 1800 as the Bataafsche Maatschappij van Taal- en Dichtkunde (Batavian Society for Language and Literature) as a result of the merger of (1) Amsteldamsche Dicht- en Letteroefenend Genootschap: Wij Streeven naar Volmaaktheid (founded in 1783), (2) Kunst Wordt door Arbeid Verkreegen (founded in 1766), and (3) Studium Scientiarum Genetrix (founded in 1773). In 1806, the Society was renamed Hollandsche Maatschappij van Fraaije Kunsten en Wetenschappen. In 1818 the Kunstliefde Spaart geen Vlijt (founded in 1772) merged into the Society. [This society was founded in Bologna as the Istituto Nazionale Italiano in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1810, at the wish of Bonaparte, who had become Emperor, it took the name Reale Istituto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (or Istituto Reale di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti); it also moved its seat to Milano. After the fall of the Kingdom of Italy, the Institute fell under Austrian rule, taking (around 1813) the name Imperiale Regio Istituto del Regno Lombardo-Veneto. In 1838, the current ruler, Emperor Ferdinando I of Austria, divided the society into two, the Istituto Lombardo based in Milano, and the Istituto Veneto in Venezia.]

[Founded in 1803, the Académie des Beaux-Arts inherited the responsibilities of three royal academies that had been suppressed in August 1793 by the Convention Nationale. Those three academies were: Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, Académie Royale d'Architecture, and Académie Royale de Musique. The Academy had the following series of names: (1) Classe des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut de France; (2) Classe des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut Impérial de France; (3) Classe des Beaux-Arts de l'Institut Royal de France; (4) Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts; and (5) Académie des Beaux-Arts (its current name).]

[This society was founded in 1805 as the Medical and Chirurgical Society of London by several people who left the Medical Society of London (founded 1773). In 1834 it received a Royal charter and became the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London. In 1907, the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London merged with several other specialist societies to form the Royal Society of Medicine; a few others joined the merger in 1908 and 1909. Among those specialist societies that ceased to exist independently in the period from 1907 to 1909 were: Pathological Society of London (1846-1907), London Epidemiological Society (1850-1907), Odontological Society of Great Britain (1856-1907), Obstetrical Society of London (1858-1907), Clinical Society of London (1867-1907), Dermatological Society of London (1882-1907), British Gynaecological Society (1884-1907), Neurological Society of London (1886-1907), British Laryngological, Rhinological and Otological Association (1888-1907), Laryngological Society of London (1893-1907), Society of Anaesthetists (1893-1908), Dermatological Society of Great Britain and Ireland (1894-1907), British Balneological and Climatology Society (1895-1909), Society for the Study of Diseases in Children (1900-1908), British Electrotherapy Society (1901-1907), and Therapeutical Society (1902-1907).]

[This Society was founded on 1808, May 20 as the Società Reale di Napoli with sections: (1) Accademia di Storia e Belle Lettere; (2) Accademia delle Scienze; and (3) Accademia di Belle Arte. It was suspended in 1816. On 1817, April 2, it was revived as the Società Reale Borbonica di Napoli with sections: (1) Accademia Ercolanese di Archeologia; (2) Accademia delle Scienze; and (3) Accademia di Belle Arti. On 1860, September 11, it became the Reale Società di Archeologia, di Scienze e di Belle Arti . On 1861, April 30, it became the Società Reale di Napoli with sections: (1) Reale Accademia di Archeologia, Lettere e Belle Arti; (2) Reale Accademia delle Scienze Fisiche e Matematiche; and (3) Reale Accademia di Scienze Morali e Politiche. On 1934, October 16, the Reale Accademia Medico-Chirugica di Napoli became the fourth Academy of the Society. France cat., the Society kept this name until 1891; from 1892, Jan.1 to 1907, April 4 it was called the Société de Médecine et Chirurgie Pratiques; by 1907, April 27 it, along with the Société Médico-Chirurgicale de Paris (founded in 1805 as the Société Médico-Pratique de Paris ) had been absorbed into the Société de Médecine de Paris (f. 1796).
