1740 According to Nicolini (1974), p.65, this Academy was founded in 1740 as the Accademia Medico-Chirurgica, and remained private for a century; on 1858, July 23, it received the Royal designation.
According to Nicolini (1974), pp.64-65, in 1934, October 16, however, the Fascist regime changed the statutes of the Società Reale di Napoli; one of the principal modifications to the statutes forced the Accademia Medico-Chirugica to become the fourth Academy within the bosom of the Società Reale di Napoli (at present known as the Società Nazionale di Scienze, Lettere e Arti in Napoli).
The Academy still remains a constituent academy of the Società Nazionale di Scienze, Lettere e Arti in Napoli, and is now called the Accademia di Scienze Mediche e Chirurgiche.
