Accademia Petrarca di Lettere, Arti e Scienze di Arezzo (Petrarchian Academy of Letters, Arts and Sciences of Arezzo)
[This Academy was founded in 1810 as the Imperiale e Regia Accademia Aretina di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti. It traces it origins to an Accademia Aretina founded in 1787 (which arose from various other societies, the most important being the Accademia dei Forzati, founded in 1683). The Academy later had the following names: (1) Imperiale e Reale Accademia di Scienze, Lettere e Bell'Arti o del Petrarca; (2) Regia Accademia Petrarca di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Arezzo; (3) Reale Accademia Petrarca di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Arezzo; (4) Reale Accademia Petrarca di Lettere, Arti e Scienze; (5) Accademia Petrarca di Lettere, Arti e Scienze di Arezzo (its current name).]

Bergamo
Ateneo di Scienze Lettere ed Arti Bergamo (Bergamasque Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts)
[The Ateneo was formed in 1810 through the merger of the Accademia degli Eccitati and the Accademia degli Arvali. The Accademia degli Eccitati had been founded in 1642, and was primarily concerned with letters; it was re-organized in 1749. The Accademia degli Arvali had been founded in 1769, and was concerned with agriculture and economics in general; it was initially called the Accademia d'Agricoltura o degli Arvali, but in 1787 changed its name to the Accademia Economico-Arvale. By decree of Napoleon on 1810, December 25, these two academies were merged into one body named Ateneo di Scienze, Lettere e Arti di Bergamo. The Academy published an Atti beginning 1868.]

Venezia
Ateneo Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (Venetian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts)
[According to its website, the Ateneo was formed in 1812, January 12, through a decree of Napoleon Bonaparte, by the merger of the Società Veneta di Medicina, the Accademia dei Filareti, and the Accademia Veneta Letteraria. But Maylender, on pp.435-436, v.5, gives the name of the first society as Accademia Veneta di Medicina, indicating that it was founded in 1789, dissolved in 1793, and reconstituted in 1807. Maylender, on p.373, v.2, gives the founding date of the Accademia dei Filareti as 1804. And Maylender indicates (p.434-435, v.5), that the third society was actually the Accademia Veneta di Belle Lettere, which had been formed in 1806 through the merger of the Accademia Veneta Letteraria, which had been founded in 1802, and the Accademia dei Sofronomi (which had been formed only that year, according to Maylender p.201, v.5). Furthermore, Maylender (pp.373-374, v.2) indicates that the date of Napoleon's decree was actually 1810. It is possible that the latter is true, with the first assembly being held in 1812.]

Spoleto
Società Agraria Spoletina (Agrarian Society of Spoleto)
[ Fausti (1977), p.84, refers briefly to a society by this name that had been founded in 1818, in large part through the efforts of Pietro Fontana, Secretary of the Accademia degli Ottusi di Spoleto. But Fausti (1977), p.90, indicates that in 1846, Fontana wanted the Accademia degli Ottusi to dedicate their efforts to agrarian studies, and arranged for the latter (which had been relatively dormant since 1823) to replace the Società Agraria Spoletina; funds previously set aside for the Società were diverted to the Accademia for the 1847 fiscal year. So the Società effectively ceased to exist in 1846. The Society does not appear to have published any journals.]

American Geological Society
[According to Kraus (1921), the American Geological Society was founded in 1819 at Yale College. The membership included the illustrious Benjamin Silliman (1779-1864). The Society was short-lived, going out of existence in 1828. It seems clear that the American Geological Society was in some sense a precursor to the Association of American Geologists and Naturalists, which was founded in 1840 as the Association of American Geologists, and which ceased to exist on 1848, September 20, when its members convened to resolve their society into a new organization: the American Association for the Advancement of Science.]
